Ingredients

  • 1 can 16 oz refrigerated biscuits, quartered
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage
  • 6 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • For the Gravy
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • cups whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks.
  • Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir well. Gradually whisk in 2½ cups milk. Cook until a thick gravy forms. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Arrange the quartered biscuit pieces evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuit pieces.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs and ½ cup milk until smooth and fully combined.
  • Slowly pour the egg mixture evenly over the biscuit and gravy layers. Let sit for 1–2 minutes.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  • Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the eggs are fully set and the top is golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Freshly shredded cheese melts better than pre-shredded cheese.
  • Spicy breakfast sausage adds extra flavor.
  • Letting the casserole rest before serving helps it hold together.
  • Great for holiday breakfasts and weekend brunches.
